Around Axis
Contact improvisation is a movement form involving two (or more) bodies in contact. It is improvisational by nature. It is moving together with shared weight. Impulses, weight and momentum are communicated through a point of physical contact that continually rolls around and across the bodies of the dancer. Dancing bodies roll, bounce, slide, swing and fly through and with a common centre. Often we speak about the ‘Beginner’s Mind’ in Contact Improvisation by which we mean to keep an open mind for new situations and learning. Sometimes when our technique improves we want to learn even more and forget the joy of dancing.
