Amid the Noise and the Haste
Join us for the festival finale, a film premiere by Colin Norrby ‘Amid the Noise and the Haste’. This film will be created from earlier festival project Together Alone: Solos in the City where 20 dancers of varying ages perform a series of solos in various outdoor locations in Derry and surrounding areas.
“I am very excited to be commissioned to create both the film and music for the ‘Together Alone: Solos in the City’ project. Having so many performers respond through movement to their chosen settings will offer a lot of visual material that is extremely dynamic and varied. Each place will also have its own sonic character which I plan to capture through field recordings. After a full week of filming there will a lot of footage to work with. The main challenge of the piece will be choosing which fragments of movement to take from each performance in order to condense it down into a short film. The musical score will be the key unifying element, bringing all of the material together into a cohesive whole and will set both the pacing and the structure of the film.” Colin Norrby
Colin Norrby is a musician from Derry who began his formal training in music at the age of 8 when he took up violin lessons and simultaneously started to teach himself the piano. In 2010 he achieved a Masters in composition from the University of York and has since been working professionally as a performer and composer. Colin has collaborated on several dance projects with Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company and the Hofesh Shechter Company. In 2013 he started freelancing as a cameraman and editor and today finds himself doing a wide variety of work including film scoring, specialising in baroque violin and composing and filming for dance.
