Casebolt and Smith
While in the process of enjoying two distinctly individual careers in performance and choreography, Liz Casebolt and Joel Smith met and discovered a shared desire to make dances that confront convention. They formed casebolt and smith in 2006, and have quickly become known for their unique and innovative voice.
Called "the Nichols and May of dance" by the LA Times, their collaboration focuses on the collision of two diverse histories. The work is "powerful, compelling and hilarious" (SanDiego.com), and offers a "marvelous aesthetic and thought-provoking worldview..." (ArtscapeMedia.com).
The duo will be performing in Derry as part of a small Ireland and UK tour so catch them while you can.
Legitimate Bodies
Legitimate Bodies Dance Company, led by artistic duo Nick Bryson and Cristina Goletti, is one of the most thrilling new dance initiatives in Ireland. The performance piece- Hanging in There was extremely successful at the 2009 Belfast Festival.
Performed by Nick Bryson and Damian Punch it is a political pamphlet on stage- a parody of the Peace Process in Northern Ireland, posing as a theatrical man-to-man dance duet.
Two politicians challenge themselves physically and verbally to meet the contortions of a gleaming new Assembly. As they profess desires for a shared and peaceful future, the language common to politics and dance is turned into brilliantly observed comic material.
"Funny and perceptive on so many levels" Daily Mirror
"a hilarious male duet ... a brilliant idea, brilliantly executed" Scotland on Sunday
