Places left in Echo Echo Dance classes for kids!

Children's Dance classes

Echo Echo are currently running their Dance and Movement Course for Children in the Echo Echo studio but there are still places left in the classes.

The after-school classes are held every Tuesday at 4pm for 5 to7 year olds and at 5pm for 8 to 12 year olds. The 8-week course still has 6 weeks to go and is perfect for kids who want to do something exciting and creative.

Echo Echo's children's course is open to boys and girls and focuses on building self-confidence and body awareness as well as nurturing their imaginations and creativity. The groups play movement games, follow choreography and even improvise and create their own dance sequences.

The course runs until 9th June when there will be a performance for family and friends. Anyone who would like more information or to book a place can contact the Echo Echo office on 7134 2266 or email info@echoechodance.com

4th&5th April- Weekend Workshop in Movement Improvisation

An Introduction to Movement Improvisation

Weekend Workshop led by Steve Batts and Ayesha Mailey

Saturday 4th & Sunday 5th April
Costs: £40 /£20 concession

Echo Echo introduces another of its ever-popular weekend workshops. This course is designed for beginner to intermediate performers, though more experienced people are welcome to attend, in preparation for a more advanced workshop on this theme in early May.

The Movement Improvisation in Performance workshop will be led by Co-Artistic Director of Echo Echo Steve Batts along with dancer/choreographer Ayesha Mailey, who each bring their own individual style and influences to the teaching.

Both days will be divided into two parts. In the morning participants will work on developing physical skills and sensitivity through structured explorations of movement with Steve Batts.

During these sessions Steve will help those in the group to explore individually the possibilities and potentials of moving through the vertical and horizontal plane and to explore the possibilities and limits, which come with partnering and moving in close proximity.

Throughout Steve's teaching the focus will be on the deep pleasures in discovery and creativity.

In the afternoon sessions, Ayesha Mailey will guide participants on how to place individual skill and creativity inside improvisation structures and scores framed with rules and themes.

Ayesha's teaching will use some scores designed by artists working in this field but she will also encourage the group to create their own. Everyone will have the opportunity to explore a range of structures, some with minimal instruction and others that contain lots of cues, triggers, themes, sound and props.

Ayesha says: "By allowing your imagination to guide you, we'll have the chance to dance and create together."

The weekend workshop will be rounded off with Echo Echo's monthly performance event, The Sunday Session for those who would like to perform the work created.

A more advanced workshop on Improvised Performance will take place on 4th, 5th and 6th May. This will also be taught by Steve and Ayesha and is an opportunity for anyone wishing to further enhance the skills they have learned.
