The Chess Piece sees 32 ‘pieces' come to life on a giant chessboard, taking you on a colourful journey around the world with movement and costume inspired by different cultures.
Performed by professional dancers and workshop participants of all ages, the eccentric characters playfully explore themes of competition, territory, power, difference and similarity.
Which side does each character belong to? And how long will they stay in the game? For chess is a game of hide and seek, it is a game of strategy and ultimately it's a game of war. It's not over until checkmate!
The Chess Piece is funded by Legacy Trust UK's Connections programme which is managed by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. It has been granted the prestigious Inspire Mark, which recognises exceptional and innovative projects inspired by the London 2012 Games.
Also supported by Arts Council of Northern Ireland through the Annual Support for Organisations Programme, and Derry City Council Grant Aid Programme.
